It’s a tree. Ok – it’s not a tree, private joke I guess.
Right, so I’ve deviated a little from the comic inspired paintings for a challenge. I recently visited the Tate gallery in Liverpool with my girlfriend to see the Piet Mondrian exhibition. For me some art is worth seeing and some doesn’t justify the admission cost, unfortunately this exhibition fell into the latter category. While it was still a lovely day out I think we both felt the free admission art work on display was probably a better experience for the regular Joe’s like us. I was challenged to do something Mondrian-esque for my girlfriends newly decorated kitchen and this is what I produced.
I tried to keep my own mark on it a little by leaving the black lines scruffy to counterbalance the uniform block colours of the boxes. I stuck to the main colours that Mondrian seemed to use. The picture that I’ve painted using acrylic on canvas will sit against a brilliant white wall so I’m looking forward to submitting my challenge entry – plus it will serve as payment for saying the exhibit my girlfriend admission for wasn’t worth it above.
Acrylic on canvas.
