Summer Rain

Acrylic on Canvas
500 X 400
2015

I’ve painted this one for fun, something quick but enjoyable. I’ll have to be honest, this isn’t original, I stole the inspiration from a photo I saw on Google, which in turn stole the idea from the originally credited artist. So, to cut the middle man out this is my interpretation of a piece of work by Marc Allante a Chinese artist who specialises in inks. As I haven’t got the budget for or experience using inks I’ve stuck with acrylic paint. I played around with watering the different Acrylic colours down to different consistencies for effect and also texture on the canvas. I’m getting ahead of myself though, the very first thing I did was the background. Leaving the canvas untreated makes it too hungry and dry, rather than that I wanted the canvas down with a thin white Acrylic before designing where I wanted the couple with the umbrella to be. From there I used bluetack along the top of the umbrella to help preserve the area below, and as with real rain I let it splash under a little but the couple remain mainly covered.

This painting was really really really fun to do. After finishing this I think I’ve decided on a few more similar ones I could do so keep an eye open, visit again and there may be the making of a series. I hope you enjoy this. 🙂
