Sheltered from the Rain

Shelter1

Acrylic on Canvas

2015

600 x 600

This is one of three paintings in a series inspired by Summer Rain and Summer Rain 2. I enjoyed creating the Summer Rain paintings that much that I came up with a concept to do similar paintings which would work alone, or together if hung on the same wall side by side. “Sheltered from the Rain” shows a silhouette in reverse of a man and his cat hiding from the colourful rain under a tree. I did this as a silhouette in reverse so that the background was dark and bleak to make the rain stand out in a different way from the Summer Rain paintings. It also made it look cold and lonesome which is a metaphor for two of the three paintings in the series. As well as the inspiration I took from the similar paintings I did I also took inspiration from my own personal life and relationship; in this painting me and my cat are stuck in a downpour waiting for the next stage of our lives – which would be the middle painting in the series.

The second part of this, or the middle painting if side by side, is Summer Rain 3, and the third painting in the series is Alone in the Rain. Summer Rain 3 is the happy outcome while the two paintings intended to accompany are the dark places we (my partner and I) were in before meeting in the happy middle painting. You can see the 3 paintings combined below – and for once these are on a wall in my house proudly displayed for all to see 🙂
